Preis Hot Spring General Description

Small sunken wooden box with seating and gravel mixed with sand bottom. Just barley fits 2 nice and snug. The little bit of algae on the wood can be extremely slick, be careful when getting in and out of the box. Average temperature is 102 and pH is approximately 7. The pool/box is just a few feet from a seasonally busy Sawtooth National Forest road.

Preis Hot Springs Trip Reports

06.27.13
After yet another punishing backpacking trip Preis was quite the treat. We were early enough in the season to not have to deal with too much traffic on the forest service road right next to the pool.

Pries was just what the doc ordered, and was just like I remembered it. Tiny, clean and a sweet soak. Nothing like easing the pain AFTER returning from a pack trip.

Yes, it's next to a moderately traveled Forest Service Road, and yes it's pretty small - but I can't help but like lil ol Preis! Despite what I just mentioned; one can't complain about the near perfect water temperature and clarity. Makes for a great warmer-upper when traveling to other hot springs in the area.

Preis was a perfect little dip right off the dusty forest road. It's a small pool built into the ground via wooden box. Despite the close quarters (2 people is a very tight fit) and being right next to the road, I have to give this a pretty good rating. The water was really clear, the temperature was perfect and no sulfur odors were to be smelled. I would recommend foot wear in this one as the wooden seat and parts on the bottom are coated with some slick stuff. I've read that locals use the Preis box for bathing/shaving with soap and shaving cream.

PUBLIC BATHING NOTICE

No Soap, Shampoo or BIO-Soap/Shampoo Allowed in Hot Springs! Avoid Being Fined!

Public hot springs are not bathing facilities and do not have 'plumbing' like that of commercial, improved hot springs. Soap and shampoo (including biodegradable soap and shampoo) do not completely breakdown naturally. This pollutes our water systems (ingested by fish, animals, humans) at or near the source. This is also illegal in most wilderness and public lands areas.
