This unnamed hot spring in the Boise National Forest’s Atlanta area is a cliffside seep on the Middle Fork Boise River: hot water streaked with bright algae flows down a cliff face straight into the river, and there is no pool to soak in. The only way to enjoy it is the late-summer way — wade in at low water where the hot meets the cold, and possibly dig out a small pool of your own.
Pool Condition
There is no pool at this hot spring. The hot water, backed by streaks of bright algae, flows down a cliff into the river. Any soaking here is improvised at the river’s edge in late season.
Seasonal Notes
The majority of roads into Atlanta close during winter, save for one route that is sketchy at best most winters. Fording the river is only advised during low-water (late season) conditions, usually late July to November. In summer you can cut down drive time by taking one of the many Forest Service Roads off State Highway 21 to the Middle Fork Road — but note the Middle Fork Boise River Road itself is a rough, heavily washboarded drive.
Camping
Plenty of nearby National Forest campgrounds and primitive sites are available.
