Atlanta Annex 1 & 2 are two undeveloped hot springs along the road near Atlanta, Idaho, sitting between three of the best soaks in the area — Atlanta, Chattanooga, and Powerplant. Each has a large pool with enough hot water flowing to support development, but they remain unbuilt, highly visible from the road, and frankly outclassed by their neighbors.
Description
Two springs with large pools and real geothermal flow, never developed into finished soaks. Water clarity is semi-clear and visibility is high — they sit right next to the road. Deer and elk are sighted in the area. Most soakers drive past them to the developed pools minutes away; the annex springs are a curiosity for completists.
Seasonal Notes
Most roads into Atlanta close in winter; the one remaining route is rough, and the Middle Fork Boise River Road is heavily washboarded year-round. In summer, forest roads off State Highway 21 can shorten the drive to the Middle Fork Road.
Camping
Plenty of National Forest campgrounds and primitive sites surround Atlanta. Free developed sites with water, tables, and an outhouse are available at Powerplant Campground, about a half-mile up the road.
