Bowery Hot Springs is one of Idaho’s most unusual soaks: the “pool” is an old fiberglass spa set beside the East Fork of the Salmon River in the Sawtooth National Forest, near Clayton. There is no natural rock pool here โ just an aging spa tub, strong sulfur water, big scenery, and (usually) nobody else around.
Pool Condition
The pool is an old fiberglass spa โ apparently a second-generation unit that doesn’t have much life left in it, so be warned. The water itself is clear with a strong sulfur odor, and the temperature is adjustable. Use is low.
Seasonal Notes
The seasonal road serving the springs is open from May 1st through December 1st.
Camping
There are a few primitive sites near the springs (not very private), plus many official campgrounds and additional primitive sites accessible from the main road.
