Frenchman’s Bend Hot Springs

Frenchman’s Bend Hot Springs is a popular set of wide, shallow pools on both sides of a creek in the Sawtooth National Forest, in the Ketchum/Smoky Mountains area. The water is clear, the setting is classic Wood River country โ€” and the rules matter here: this spring is day-use only, with a posted nighttime closure in effect, and no camping at the springs.

Pool Condition

Wide and shallow pools, rock-walled with gravel and sand bottoms, lying on each side of the creek during low-water conditions. The water is clear with a slight odor. Use is heavy.

Seasonal Notes

Seasonal Forest Road closure from October through mid-May; the open date in May depends on snow level. Prime soaking season is between late June and late October. The pools are buried under spring runoff. A nighttime closure is posted and still in effect โ€” plan a daytime soak.

Camping

No campsites around the spring, and the area is posted with “no camping” and “nighttime closure” signs โ€” but there are plenty of campgrounds and primitive sites to choose from in the surrounding Sawtooth National Forest.
