Mountain Village Resort Hot Springs in Idaho

Mountain Village Resort Hot Springs

Mountain Village Resort’s hot springs in Stanley, Idaho, have grown well beyond the single pool the old listings describe: today there are three soaking tubs along Valley Creek — the long-standing Osprey Hot Spring plus two newer private tubs, Sandhill Crane and Bluebird — all with astounding views of the Sawtooth Mountains, and all soaked by reservation only.

Need to Know

  • Reservations are required for every hot spring tub — book online or through the Lodge front desk (800-843-5475). Check in at the front desk before soaking.
  • All three springs are about a 550-yard walk (roughly 1/3 mile) from the Lodge, along the banks of Valley Creek. Driving to the hot springs is prohibited in any season.
  • Guests must be 18 or older, or accompanied by an adult. Pets are not allowed in the tubs or buildings.
  • No soaps, shampoos, or body washes — including biodegradable ones — in the hot springs. No glass containers (eating and drinking are otherwise allowed).

The Pools

The tubs are fed by natural hot water piped into man-made, pebble-bottom pools, running 98–104°F depending on the time of year. Osprey Hot Spring is the resort’s original tub: lodge room guests (up to eight) receive free access with a reservation, though private soaks aren’t guaranteed in it. Sandhill Crane and Bluebird are newer 8′ × 8′ tubs rented privately for groups of up to ten guests each; each tub room has a changing room and a small grass area.

Rates

  • Sandhill Crane & Bluebird (private tubs): $50 for two people, plus $5 per additional guest
  • Osprey Hot Spring: free for Mountain Village Lodge room guests (reservation required)
  • Hot springs inquiries: hotsprings@mountainvillage.com or the front desk at 800-843-5475

Directions

Mountain Village Resort sits in Stanley at the junction of State Highway 21 (Milepost 130.9) and State Highway 75 (Milepost 189.4). Winter warning from the old listing, still worth heeding: the stretch of Highway 21 between Lowman and Stanley almost always closes from late November through March–April in the Banner Summit area — check road reports before traveling to Stanley in winter.
