Pine Burl Hot Springs

Pine Burl Hot Springs is a single rock-walled pool at the end of a 2-mile hike in the Boise National Forest north of Crouch, on the Middle Fork of the Payette River trail — past both Moondipper and Lil Dipper. It’s generally the best soak of the three on this creek, with one quirk: its temperature, usually a near-perfect 101–103°F, can vary dramatically.

Pool Condition

A single rock-walled pool with mortar reinforcement and a sandy bottom, with a slight amount of silt in the corners. The water is clear with no odor noticed. Use is low to moderate.

Seasonal Notes

The Forest Service Road providing access is snow-covered all winter until approximately May. During the summer this is ORV country — expect heavy dirt and dust traffic on the road. Snowmobile access may be possible in the winter months.

Camping

There is a flat, sizeable campsite just a bit further past the springs, and another further up the main trail before you depart up the creek to Moondipper. Many primitive and official camping opportunities are accessible from the forest road.
