Browns Creek Hot Springs in Idaho

Browns Creek Hot Springs

Browns Creek Hot Springs hides on the far side of the Middle Fork Boise River in the Atlanta area โ€” and the river is the gatekeeper. A deep, cold ford that should only be attempted at low water (usually August) guards a small set of shallow seasonal pools, a roughly 30-foot hot waterfall shower, and one secret two-person rock-and-mortar soaker tucked into a nook in the rocks, the only pool out of view of the road.

Pool Condition

Shallow pools fed by the hot waterfall emerge above water only late in the season, around August. The hidden two-person pool is rock and mortar construction. Expect to rebuild and clean out pools on arrival โ€” this is a seasonal, user-maintained soak.

Seasonal Notes

The ford is the whole story: attempt it only during low-water conditions, typically sometime in August. Most roads into the Atlanta area close in winter, and the Middle Fork Boise River Road is heavily washboarded year-round. In summer, forest roads off State Highway 21 can shorten the drive.

Camping

Plenty of National Forest campgrounds and primitive sites line the road up and down the river corridor.
