Easley Hot Springs

North of Ketchum on State Highway 75, Easley Hot Springs is a developed, family friendly soaking complex in the Sawtooth National Recreation Area: a full size outdoor swimming pool fed directly by the springs, two soaking tubs overlooking it, and a small general store. The complex sits on Sawtooth National Forest land and is run by Cathedral Pines Baptist Camp under a Forest Service special use permit, and all profits support the ministries of the camp.

The pool is seasonal and currently in its off season: it opens each year on Memorial Day weekend, runs through Labor Day, and finishes with a few reduced schedule weeks in September. Plan your visit for the warm months, and check the pool’s posted hours and prices before you go, since the schedule can change.

The Soaking Experience

The centerpiece is the pool itself: a full size outdoor swimming pool filled with spring water and no chlorine. According to the property’s pool page, the water emerges from the ground at 100ยฐF and flows by gravity to the tubs and pool, and the pool is held at a warm 85ยฐF all summer. It runs from 2 to 8 feet deep, with stairs at the shallow end, so it works as well for a family swim as for a soak.

For a hotter, quieter seat, there are two soaking tubs fed by the same source water: one larger group tub and one smaller, more private tub, both overlooking the pool area. The water is mineral rich and chemical free, and the same spring water supplies the showers. The setting does the rest: the complex sits along the Big Wood River next to the Harriman Trail, with views up to Boulder Peak.

Fees, Hours & Reservations

In the core season the pool and store are open Tuesday to Saturday from 11 am to 7 pm and Sunday from noon to 5 pm. Mondays the pool stays closed so it can refill after the Sunday evening cleaning. September runs a shorter schedule (in 2026, Wednesday to Saturday, 11 am to 7 pm). Hours are subject to change and the property advises calling ahead.

2026 admission: $14 for general admission (ages 12 to 59), $12 for seniors (60 and older) and children (3 to 12), and free for toddlers 2 and under. Passes keep regulars happy: a 5 Day Pass is $60, an Adult Season Pass $175, a Child or Senior Season Pass $140, a Family Season Pass $400, and a Cabin Season Pass $550. Groups of 20 or more pay $12 per adult and $10 per senior or child with advance scheduling, and before or after hours private parties run $16 per adult and $14 per child or senior, booked at least 7 days ahead. Facilities, Lodging & Nearby

On site there is a general store stocked with snacks, ice cream, ice, firewood, and sundry and camping items, plus changing rooms, showers, and a picnic patio. There is no lodging at the pool itself.

Camping

The Forest Service Easley Campground is within easy walking distance, with vault toilets and drinking water and no electricity, reservable through Recreation.gov and generally open the same season as the pool (listed at about $16 per night). Cathedral Pines Baptist Camp, next door, is a separate group camp. For hotels, restaurants, and everything else, Ketchum is 14 to 15 miles south.

History

The springs were already in use when the Cathedral Pines story began. As the camp’s own history tells it, the Rev. Will Shanks of Buhl scouted the area north of Ketchum in 1919 for a Baptist youth camp, and the first camp site sat just below the Easley pool, which at the time was little more than a wooden sided, overgrown bathtub. The camp, later named Cathedral Pines, celebrated the centennial of camping at its present location in 2021, and the pool and store still operate on national forest land under a special use permit, with every dollar of profit supporting the camp’s ministries.

Safety & Health

This is a maintained pool complex rather than a wild soak, and the house rules are simple: children under 13 need adult supervision, and lifeguards are on duty only when 40 or more people are in the pool area, so keep an eye on your own crew. The spring water is untreated and mineral rich, which is the draw, and it also means the usual hot water common sense applies: take breaks, stay hydrated, and call ahead if anyone in your group has health concerns about hot water soaking.

Best Time to Visit

Easley is a core summer experience: any week between Memorial Day weekend and Labor Day gets the full schedule, the warmest air, and the pool at its 85ยฐF best. September is the quiet shoulder, with reduced Wednesday to Saturday hours, and from fall through spring the gates are closed and the Highway 75 corridor belongs to the undeveloped springs instead.

Nearby Hot Springs

For a natural soak on the same corridor, Russian John Warm Springs is a shallow roadside pool north of Ketchum on Highway 75, the closest backcountry style soak to pair with Easley. West of Ketchum, the creekside pools at Frenchman’s Bend Hot Springs sit on Warm Springs Creek, and southwest in the Smoky Mountains, Worswick Hot Springs spreads its pools across a hillside. For another developed soak, head up Highway 75 to Stanley and the reservation only tubs at Mountain Village Resort. More South-Central Idaho hot springs โ†’
